five questions: robicelli's.

over the past year or so, i've gone from cupcake hater to cupcake appreciator & one of the main reasons for that change in attitude is the cupcakes from brooklyn's robicelli's. run by the husband & wife duo of matt & allison robicelli, they've been distributing their cupcakes to various shops around the city for a while now & this past summer opened up a sweet-looking physical location in a shipping container at dekalb market. their cupcakes are creative & unique & the lineup is constantly changing. a cupcake with a piece of chicken on top? you've got it with their chicken n waffles cupcake. they've got not one but TWO sweet ptoato cupcakes on the schedule for november. nuff said. it doesn't hurt that they seem to be good people too. good people get my snack dollars.

earlier this month, on their oft-hilarious & less-oft-but-still-oft-poignant tumblr, allison declared that "matt will not stop until he’s created ONE BILLION MILLION PUMPKIN TYPE FLAVORS THIS FALL. or something of that nature." i'm not sure if that was a statement or a challenge but it intrigued me so a few days back i stopped by their booth at madison square eats (which is now closed for the season) to sample a few of their pumpkin cupcakes. bonus: allison was kind enough to answer a few pumpktastic questions for eat!drink!snack!

recipe! pumpkin oatmeal cookies.

all pumpktoberfest long, we've been featuring guest posts from some of my favorite bloggers. for our final guest post of the pumpktoberfest season, this week we've got the first ever recipe on eat!drink!snack! courtesy of laura from eating the beats, a blog that pairs cooking & music together in an oh-so pleasant way. want some super simple !!!pea salad? how's about a lil' wine-soaked chocolate cake & pears inspired by the national? anyway...she combines two of my loves in a tasty manner, so you should check her stuff out. bonus points if you make one of her recipes & feed it to me.

when it comes to halloween, i can't say i'm really into the costumes, but i am definitely into celebrating all things pumpkin. i've made pumpkin whoopie pies, pumpkin-apple cupcakes, and even cupcakes with mini pumpkin pies in them, but for something a little more simple and less labor-intensive, you can't go wrong with pumpkin oatmeal cookies. these are simple, soft, cake-like cookies that are sweet but not too sweet. and, if you buy a large can of pumpkin puree (libby's, of course), you'll have plenty leftover for things like pumpkin granola and pumpkin oatmeal.

pumpktoberfest #34 - one leaf to rule them all.

film: leprechaun
beer: greenport harbor leaf pile ale

as someone with a good bit of irish ancestry, i'm fully aware of the two irish stereotypes--the drunk & the leprechaun. both stereotypes are completely hilarious & i fully endorse further comedic use of the two. case in point: the 1993 horror film leprechaun, a film that launched a six-film franchise with such amazing direct-to-video concepts as leprechaun 4: in space & leprechaun: in the hood. it was the first film role for jennifer aniston, a role she took after spending a season on the short-lived ferris bueller TV series. it also features that dude who played a manchild in pee-wee's big adventure. he plays a manchild in this film too, so i guess that's sort of his thing. the leprechaun's played by warwick davis, who was willow in willow & wicket in return of the jedi.

a smorgasburg of pumpkins.

as i've mentioned a bunch of times in the past, three-quarters of the parow children now live in new york city, so we get together every once in a while. when we do, it's usually over food. last weekend, my doctor sister was celebrating her 35th 25th birthday so on a windy saturday the three of us & a few of the bro's pals met up in williamsburg at the god-awful hour of 11am to eat a bunch of food at brooklyn flea's smorgasburg market. it was the first time i'd returned to the market after visiting there for fucked in park slope back in may for its opening weekend. in preparation for our familial gathering, the bro had purchased three passes from gilt city that were each good for five entrees, a drink & a dessert, so we had some serious eating ahead of us. i, of course, was on the hunt for pumpktoberfest treats.

a tale of two pumpkin (drinks).

all pumpktoberfest long, we've got guest posts from some of my favorite bloggers. so far, the posts from erica of FIPS & junk food guy have been nothing short of pumpktastic. today we've got the return of the eatinist bitch, who contributed a guest post on snacks & drinks in puerto rico to eat!drink!snack! this past summer. she kinda cracks my shit up. inside joke: don't ever get her on a boat & make her prepare guacamole for you.

fall isn't particularly my favorite time of year, but it's pretty special because it's her time to shine. by "her," i mean that curvy orange delight, the pumpkin. pumpkin pie, pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin ice cream...pretty much anything pumpkin's added to is made better with its beautiful color, rich flavor, and dare i even say it...nutrition. when i saw that jamba juice had a seasonal smoothie called the "pumpkin smash" (almost sounds like a wrestling move...or a bad dance move from the 50's), of course I had to give it a try.
