during the first two days of my trip to arizona to visit the sis, we tried something called "guacummus," paid a visit to a famous breakfast joint in phoenix & brewery in tempe, and mixed in some at-home snacking. over the final two days of the trip, we just kept on eating with a purpose.

i'm the oldest of four children & while i'm obviously the funny one, my sister (who's two years younger than me) has solidly cemented herself as the one most qualified to perform surgery & distribute meds. for the last three years, she's been working at a hospital out in phoenix & as of this past weekend, she's officially a doctor. her convocation ceremony was on saturday & i'd yet to visit her, so a week ago this thursday, i hopped on a jumbo jet & paid a visit to her & the state known for passionate anti-immigration, slacking on MLK day & sprawl as far as the eye can see...that and spring training baseball & old people. word is they're also known for a big hole in the ground.
since my life pretty much revolves around food, going into the trip, my sis & i had decided that other than sleep & the convocation (which actually ended up being a hour-and-a-half ceremony sandwiched between a cocktail hour & a dinner), the singular purpose of our four days together was to eat as much tasty, mostly-arizonacentric food as possible.

i'm not usually one to celebrate cinco de mayo, but this year, oh man did i guac shit up. last wednesday, nachosny (nyc's preeminent authority on nachos) held their 2nd annual "guactacular" at brooklyn's bell house & after missing it last year, i planned ahead this year & luckily got a ticket before it sold out. i know what you're thinking: "what the hell's a guactacular?" well maynard, it's pretty simple: a guactacular is an event where twenty folks compete for the title of "best guacamole." also, it's an opportunity to drink cheap mexican beer & watch hip brooklynites interact.

oh man. so my high school pal jeff is getting married this summer & his bachelor party was this past weekend up at foxwoods. originally, i wasn't planning on attending, but circumstances eventually changed & by saturday afternoon, i was drinking a beer in a foxwoods hotel room. this is what happened: on friday, tadley (of spotted dick fame) & nugs drove up from d.c. for a friday evening stopover before heading up to foxwoods on saturday. i got out of work a whole hour early & met them out at mission dolores (alternate name: missing clitoris), a new beer garden in a converted church on 4th ave in park slope. it was a lovely day out & we sat in the outdoor courtyard drinking snooty beer after snooty beer & taking artsy photos & by the third beer, i'd said "screw it" & decided to join them when they left the next morn. after all, how many bachelor parties is jeff going to have? two, maybe three?

happy four twenty, dudes & dudettes! when you woke up this morn, were you all like "oh man, where's my weed? where's my bong?" of course you were! it's 4/20 & that means that today's totally international smoke pot day! pick your best tie-dyed shirt up off the floor & throw it on, sprinkle yourself with some patchouli fragrance, smoke a big fat one & head out to see a MIND-BLOWING advance screening of phish 3D. your fate has been predetermined by the calendar, bra. get out your hackey sack & rastafari gear & head on down to your local multiplex...or at least go get stoned somewhere. the calendar decrees it. hurry up!
