#169 - b.a.n.a.n.a.s.

remember that sweet ass tv show the banana splits? some of you may know the awesomeness i speak of, but for most of you eat!drink!snack! readers, who i assume skew heavily tween, you have absolutely no idea what i'm talking about. let me lay it out for you. there was this hanna-barbera variety show back in '68 & '69 called the banana splits that featured four animal characters (people dressed in sid & marty kroft-designed costumes) who were in a band called the banana splits. the show was part live action, part cartoons & part segments where the banana splits got into wacky situations & occasionally rocked out. when i was a kid, it was on in reruns & i ate that shizz up.

#168 - you've been iced, bro!

i consider myself lucky. to this day i've remained friends with a number of people who i first met in high school & even prior to that. this past friday, bri, my first ever friend from kindergarten, got married down in savannah, georgia & while i wasn't able to make it down south for the wedding, about a month back, i was able to make it up to boston for a weekend of bachelor party activities with him & a dozen or so of our friends. it's the second bachelor party i've had the opportunity to attend this summer & though the first one was a blast, bri's definitely took first prize.

#167 - mlb.

so, i've been watching what some people might describe as "an unhealthy amount of baseball" recently. i really don't know how it got this bad this quick, but for the past week or so, i've been getting home from work, flipping on the tv & settling in for hours upon hours of our national pastime. i've watched a few full games here & there, but most of the time i've been tuning in to mlb tonight live on the mlb network, where they bounce from one game to the next, only showing key/exciting moments. it's perfect for people like me with short attention spans. during my viewing, i've learned a few things about baseball in 2010:

#166 - back in black.

for most of my life, i've never been a huge fan of ac/dc. in my elementary school days, while i listened to a bunch of rock, it was mostly of the big hair variety. during my high school years, i got caught up in rap & by the time college rolled around, ac/dc was being kinda meh, putting out songs like "big gun" & working with uber-producer rick rubin & on 1995's lackluster ballbreaker. since then, they've only put out two albums, but i've been stuck in an indie rock mindset for a while now, meaning i was too cool for them. initially, not even landing a job at a company where they're one of the bands i work with was enough to make me like them. it took meeting the band & then seeing them live from the 4th row to really get what they're all about. they're just five dudes from australia who who play straightforward, eardrum-busting rock & choose a working-man's attitude toward their music over a rock star attitude.

#165 - something's fishy.

something smells fishy around here. at first, i figured it was just the foul-smelling scent of city garbage marinating in the hot summer sun, but that smells more like cheese than fish. then i thought that maybe i'd forgotten to put on deodorant this morn. after a couple of sniffs of the pits, i ruled that out as well. was it actually fish? it couldn't be that. i hardly ever eat fish outside of a sushi joint. you know what? it's probably just a dead possum caught in the floorboards. oh, wait. i live on the basement level. i don't even have floorboards. i bet it's just a case of something that's metaphorically fishy, like the rod blagojevich trial or a perp's story on CSI or a BP solution, which, come to think of it, is both metaphorically & tragically fishy.
